Rockwall Football Team Travels to Oklahoma to play in the Sooner Classic

The RYCA Rockwall Youth Football program will be taking the 5th & 6th Grade RYCA Jacket Travel team to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.  Saturday, November 16; the team will compete against an elite youth football team from Seneca, Missouri at 9 AM.
The Rockwall Jackets will play two games on Saturday, and depending on the outcome will look at playing the championship game of the Sooner Classic, Sunday at Union High School Football Stadium.  There are two divisions in the Sooner Classic (Open and Elite).  The Jackets will be competing in the Elite division.  There are 48 total teams from Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri.  Winners will receive a championship ring.

The RYCA Rockwall Jackets Travel team was chosen for their commitment and high level of play throughout the football season.

The selection to the travel team which was determined by the head coaches of each 5th and 6th grade team was based on teamwork, sportsmanship, offensive skill, defensive skill, and overall football knowledge.  These players were determined to be the best of the best from the RYCA Rockwall Jackets Premier Football League.

The RYCA Jackets 5th and 6th Grade Football teams had roughly 150 players who were originally awarded the right to wear the Jackets uniform.  Each team played 8 season games, and went up against some exceptional talent.

The Sooner Classic began in 1999, under the umbrella of the Union Youth Football Association. It was envisioned that local teams could have the opportunity to compete in a post season tournament against other talented teams in and around the Tulsa area, across the State of Oklahoma, and from surrounding states as well.

Each of the teams that have been in the Classic have brought with them highly talented players hoping to see how they would stack up against similar teams from the southwest and the State of Oklahoma. The rules have changed a bit since 1999, but nonetheless, the Classic has grown to be the premiere post season tournament in the Southwest Region of the United States.

There have been many exciting and challenging games during the Sooner Classic Championships.  Texas is always a favorite as are the teams from Kansas City, and Springdale Arkansas just to name a few.  The competition, just like the number of teams, continues to increase in level each year.

Many fields are used to get the competition done within the two day tournament. The Championship Games are played on the finest high school venue in the State of Oklahoma—Union Tuttle Stadium.

This is truly some of the finest competition from the Southwestern United States you’ll see in a two-day span.  Be sure to attend the Sooner Classic Championships or follow the results on the RYCA Rockwall Jackets Facebook Site.
