The RYCA Rockwall Nebbie Jackets 6th Grade football team are filled with 70% of first year youth football players. They are some of the hardest working players in the premier football league that is one of the largest grade and school pure leagues in North Texas.
On Wednesday night, the 5-1 Nebbie Jackets would take on the 4-2 Hays Jackets. In the first matchup between these two teams, the Hays team beat a flat Nebbie Jackets pretty handily. However, this game would be played after all-day thunderstorms on a cool evening at Heath High School. If Nebbie would win, they would be in first place having to take on the HHCA Heath Hawks who have the same record but have already been defeated by the Jackets. If Hays won, and the Jackets beat the Heath Hawks Youth Football Team then there would be a 3-way tie that would have to be settled by a coin toss to determine the seeding for the playoffs.
It was an epic battle with the team from Hays scoring first, but the boys from Nebbie had an answer 3 plays later to tie the score. It was a complete team effort with Lake Johnson and the special teams making key plays and 4 of 5 extra point kicks, the offense scoring on all but two drives, and the defense taking the ball away 3 times as well as adding a score.
The RYCA Nebbie Jackets emerged victorious beating the RYCA Hays Jackets of the premier youth football league 38-30.
Coach Ashworth awarded Nebbie Jackets players QB/SS Tyler Ashworth, RB/OLB Tanner Webb, RB/MLB Joseph Schaefer, and K/OL/DE Lake Johnson as Captains for tonight's game. Tyler has been an inspiration to watch as he has led the offense up and down the field all season. Tanner reminds people of Dallas Cowboys nemesis, Redskins John Riggens with his hard nose running. Joseph looks like Dallas Cowboys Bill Bates as he delivers strong tackles the whole game. Lake is getting a nickname of "Money" for kicking it through the uprights, but don't just call him a kicker because he plays a mean defensive end too!
Congratulations RYCA Rockwall Nebbie Jackets on your victory! Next game is at Heath High School against the HHCA Heath Hawks. The winner of Saturday's game will go into the playoffs as the first place seed. The loser of this next game will have to play the Hays Jackets in the first round which will be a battle in itself.
This years Super Bowl will take place at Wilkerson Sanders Stadium in Rockwall Texas. However, for your Nebbie Jackets to be able to play they need to take care of business on Saturday.
Go Jackets!!!
